Homewood Mountain Resort is considered by many to have the best views of Lake Tahoe from its 1260 acres of skiable peak-to-shore terrain. Founded in 1962, it is only a few miles south of Tahoe City. Known for its great selection of intermediate slopes, skiers have access to 64 runs and 7 lifts. The current owners, JMA Ventures, has planned and received approval for an impressive expansion that includes a community center, recreational enhancements, a new lodge, and residences.
The resort climbs 1650 feet from 6229 ft at the base to 7879 feet at the summit. Fifteen percent of its runs are designed for beginners while 35% are for advanced skiers. Ten percent of the advanced runs were designed to challenge expert boarders and skiers. There are also two terrain parks to choose from. The longest run of 2 miles gives skiers and boarders a chance to carve turns at their leisure.
Homewood is a favorite destination because it’s positioning provides shelter from winds and weather by Ellis Peak, resulting in an average of 300 days of sun a year and comfortable winter temperatures.
North and South Lodge locations offer different services. The Adult ski school is located at the North Lodge while the Snow Rangers Academy for the young adventurers is found at the South Lodge.
Currently, visitors have access to 5 different venues for food and spirits on the mountain but the selection will be growing with the resort. Take a video tour of the proposed plan below.
Complimentary shuttles to and from the resort is available in a limited local area when visitors call a day ahead.
Having won awards for their environmental efforts, Homewood Ski Resort has a goal to become the “greenest” resort in Lake Tahoe. Their planned development will help them achieve a Gold Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Developmental Design.
If you’d like to invest in the new condo community when it becomes available, please let me know and I will keep you informed! Construction is expected to begin at the north base in 2017.
