The AMGEN Tour of California, has peddled through Tahoe for a few years now and 2017 will be no exception. Expect to see the 16 participating women’s teams ride through Tahoe on day one and two of their four days of competition on May 11th and 12th.
They’ll be riding around Lake Tahoe in a clockwise direction from a Heavenly start during Stage 1. Last year’s winning team will be hoping to get out in front again this year. The route for Stage 2 will cover some terrain not traveled during the AMGEN Tours of past years. Heavenly will be the starting point for the second day as well, where they will traverse the 7740 foot Luther Pass summit and descend into the Carson River Basin. Eventually they’ll cover the new territory as they climb the Kingsbury Grade which is a 2700’ climb over eight miles. Both days finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort.
During Stage 3 on May 13th, the women will travel from Elk Grove to Sacramento and then will finish the Capitol Circuit Race during Stage 4 on May 14th.
The Men’s teams will not come to Tahoe this year but you can certainly catch them elsewhere in California, visit the AMGEN Tour of California website for all the details. The men’s race runs from May 14 to May 20th, 2017.
